Das EF Wirtschaft und Recht baut auf der Einführung im Grundlagenfach auf. Durch eine Erweiterung und Vertiefung der Thematik erlangen Sie die Fähigkeit, das wirtschaftliche, rechtliche und politische Geschehen zu verstehen, zu interpretieren und eigene Entscheide zu treffen. Dem Aktualitätsbezug wird hierbei grosse Bedeutung beigemessen. Dieses EF richtet sich also nicht nur an Schüler*innen, die später Wirtschaft oder Recht studieren wollen, sondern an alle, die ein Interesse an wirtschaftlichen Zusammenhängen und an rechtlichen Fragen haben.
Der einjährige Unterricht im Teilbereich Wirtschaft (Volkswirtschaft und Betriebswirtschaft) wird auf Englisch geführt. Auch die Prüfungsfragen werden auf Englisch gestellt. Die Antworten zu den Prüfungsfragen können die Schüler*innen wahlweise in Deutsch oder Englisch schreiben. Der Teilbereich Recht wird auf Deutsch unterrichtet und geprüft.

In business, you will get to know more about companies as an important element of the economy and our society. Two of the areas covered in business lessons will be company strategy and marketing. In this context you will learn how Body Shop, Starbucks and McDonalds took over the world with the same method of expansion. Moreover, you will explore the growth and importance of brand value for companies such as Apple.
Studying the way businesses function cannot be complete without having a close look at how employees can be (de)motivated, how personnel is hunted for, hired, trained, and sometimes fired. All of this is part of a company’s Human Resource Management.
Business, of course, is a numbers game. In order to decide whether you want to work for or invest in a company, you need some facts and figures. Hence, you will learn how to judge the financial situation of a business.
These topics will be taught from a theoretical perspective as well as through real-world examples. You will also get a glimpse into the future – what do, for example, start-up culture, sharing economy, crypto currencies and artificial intelligence mean for businesses that want to be successful in the future.
Why do economists hate Monopoly, what does McDonald’s Big Mac have to do with exchange rates, and why do 100 Swiss Francs cost 2.3 Million Vietnamese Dong?
A deeper dive into economics will provide you with a glimpse behind the scenes of “the market”; the place where supply and demand meet and the “invisible hand” forms a price. You will get answers to questions such as “what is the role of prices in a free market economy?” and “what is the importance of people’s expectations and preferences for the economy?”. Additionally, you will find out more about the government’s responsibilities and tasks in a free market economy. Economics lessons will provide you with a better understanding of topics frequently discussed in politics and the media such as unemployment, minimum wages, taxes, or even the destruction of rainforests.
Economics is always current and often the subject of intense debate. Hence, there will be room for active student contribution and the discussion of controversial events such as Brexit or frequently debated topics such as globalisation, or the (widening?) gap between the rich and the poor.

Die Lehr- und Lerninhalte im Recht sollen Sie befähigen, das Zustandekommen und die Erfüllung eines Vertrages zu überprüfen. Kann eine minderjährige Person überhaupt einen gültigen Vertrag abschliessen? Wie ist vorzugehen, wenn sich beim neuen Snowboard schon in den ersten Tagen der Belag löst? Wie verbindlich sind Preisanschriften in einem Schaufenster oder in einem Prospekt? Welche Rechte stehen Ihnen zur Verfügung, wenn Sie ein Gemälde kaufen, das sich nachträglich als gekonnte Fälschung herausstellt? Neben diesen privatrechtlichen Fragen werden Sie sich auch ausführlich mit dem Strafrecht auseinandersetzen. Was ist eine teilbedingte Freiheitsstrafe? Unter welchen Umständen ist ein vorsätzliches Tötungsdelikt ein Mord? Sind «Enkeltrickbetrüger» tatsächlich Betrüger? Kann man eine Straftat begehen, ohne dafür bestraft zu werden?
